Frequently Asked Questions
How do I become a client? What is your registration process?
If you haven't already done so, visit our contact us page and submit your information. Amanda's Pet Care will then contact you with more information and to schedule your 2 client meetings. The initial meeting is a quick 2-minute introduction in your doorway that allows you to meet me, the owner of Amanda's Pet Care and I will also give you your new client folder at that time with forms and information for your consultation visit. The consultation visit will take place 1-2 days after our initial meeting. During the consultation visit, I will review the forms that you have completed, go over your pet's routine, answer any questions you have, collect two sets of keys including any building passes, a parking pass if needed, and payment in full for your first service and $18.00 registration fee. This visit should take no more than 30 minutes. Within 24 hours of your consultation visit, Amanda's Pet Care will email you a Client Confirmation document
confirming the dates of your first service have been added to our schedule. What are your hours of operation?
Our office hours are 8:30am-6pm, Monday-Friday. We spend most of our day with our hands full of leashes and litterboxes so we may be unable to always take your call but we will get back to you as soon as we can. You can also email us anytime and all emails are sent to our mobile device and during business hours, most are returned within four hours.
Our pet care visit hours are 7am-9pm, seven days a week, with 7pm-9pm being reserved for bedtime visits for dogs. During busy holiday periods we may extend our hours slightly at our discretion. We do not offer service before 7am or after 9pm - pet sitters need rest too!

How far in advance should I book service?
To help ensure availability, we recommend booking services at least 2 weeks in advance during normal periods and 1-2 months in advance for holidays.
What are your payment terms?
Payment for new clients is due in full at the consultation visit. For Daily Dog Visits and our Puppy Walk Program, clients are billed monthly and payment is due in advance by the 5th of each month. For all other services, we ask clients to leave us a check on the counter on the first day of service.
What is your inclement weather policy?
Dog Walking Services: If Arlington County government offices are closed, for the safety of your pet sitter, all Dog Walking Services will be cancelled.
Doggie Day Trips: We monitor the weather daily and if there is a storm heading our way, we will notify clients 1-2 days in advance if we decide to cancel our Doggie Day Trips. Clients may request one of our other Dog Walking Services instead but it is subject to our inclement weather policy above.
Dog-Sitting and Cat-Sitting Services: Your pet sitter will make every effort to visit your pet as soon as it is safe to do so. Visits may be shortened and schedules adjusted to accommodate for extra travel time. Please remember to give Amanda's Pet Care the name and number of an emergency contact (preferably a neighbor) to call if conditions are unsafe for travel.

What requirements do you have for the pets you care for?
We require all pets to be up to date on their vaccinations and not have a history of aggression towards people or other animals. All dogs must be leash trained and not excessive pullers. However if your dog is a puller, we are happy to work with you on a training program.
My dog never goes outside more than twice a day. Will you waive your requirement of three visits per day for me?
Dogs are very social animals and our visits provide much more than just a potty break. We offer companionship and interaction during their day while you are out of town. For this reason, we are unable to accommodate requests for less than three visits per day.
My cat only needs to be visited every other day. Why do you require at least one visit per day for cats?
For the safety and well-being of your cat, we require at least one visit per day while you are out of town. We want to make sure they are well taken care of while you're gone.
Do you accept outdoor cats or dogs with access to kitty or doggie doors?
For safety reasons, we do not care for dogs or cats with free access to kitty or doggie doors while you are not at home. We require that these doors remain closed while we are caring for your pets.
I frequently need service with less than 24 hours notice. Can you accommodate my needs?
While we do our best to assist our clients with last minute service requests, if you know you will frequently need service with less than 24 hours notice, you may be better suited to contact a larger pet care company better equipped to handle such requests.
